Tragedi Ramadhan 2015: Ramadhan Berduka - edited Agustus 2018

You Never Be Alone

Sometimes we feel as if we were walking alone. Nobody is there to ask for a help. Suddenly a feeling of sad and hopeless comes up. The questions are then hovering in the head, such as why there is no one to give a hand, why those who just sell the face who get , and so on.

I myself, have already chosen my own way. So I should be ready to walk alone. My principles are Never give up to any situation and always trust to Allah. Never become a beggar, asking for help from everyone,  here and there. Never promise anything to anyone since the promise will be a debt. Just work hard in silent and let the other people talk about it. Be self discipline so it will become role model for others. Make the word realized into action so our word become strong in front of evryone.

The time will prove our effort.

Whither PII?

A short message came into my mobile phone stating: "Rendered in peace to Illahi Rabbi, Prof. Anton Timur Djaelani, today, Sunday 15th February 2009. He will be buried in his tranquil village Tasikmalaya." Anyone who is and was member of Indonesian Muslims Students' Association (IMSA or PII in bahasa, stands for Pelajar Islam Indonesia) would be certainly feel condolence by the news. Why not?

Prof. Anton is one of founding fathers of PII, along with his friends; Yoesdi Ghazali, Ibrahim Zarkasyi, and Amin Syahri. He is the last among the four, and God blessed him with a long age (80 years), witnessing many social changes, including the ones simmering within PII, the organization that he established 56 years ago. May Allah accept his deeds, forgive his mistakes and place him in His best side.

Now, whart next? Should PII also passed away with the demise of its founding fathers? After its glorious age in 1960s, where PII and HMI -backed by outrageous military,  topple flambouyant President Soekarno with their street parliament, PII seems to redefine its position among Indonesian society. During Soeharto era (1966-88) which has military tendency in exercising its power, the role of PII is decreasing into minimum level.

Hypocricy in Profession

A week a go my friend called for a chat. We finally met in a mosque. Unlike before, he came with a very serious face and his usual smile almost totally lost.
"What's up man?"
"I never understand people can stay away from his psychological situation where faith has become part of his job."
"What do you mean? "
"How can a religious man, a pious man in a mosque, graduate from an Islamic university, considered as ustaz, but when he works, as if no value is needed to achieve his goals. He will do anything at all cost, including cheating and decieving."
"Well... normally this people has specific goal in his work, especially position. If his performance is not good he will create image as if it is as good as expected. Or, he will claim other people's work."
"Do you think an ustaz can do that?"
"Well... ustaz is also human being. They eat and drink like us, so they may have similar passion"
"....."
(He falls silent  and speechless)

After Two and Half Years

It has been 30 months after the execution of big choice. The choice itself is already taken 360 days before the execution, during which all of us, who are in the secondment program, suffer most from being "outsider" mistreatment. No out-of-office assignment, no structural position, no invitation for gathering. We are like "Sudra-class people" after marking "return to old institution" choice, which will be implemented one year afterwards. 350 people out of one thousand seconded employees chose to go back to their initial employer and do not want to be lured by temptation of promises, like promotion and salary increase.

The Problem of Being Low-level Manager

Today an invitation comes to my desk. It is from National Sharia Board (in which I am one of its Executive Committee, also its founding member) who will have its Tenth Annual Meeting on the following days.
National Sharia Board is an autonomous body under Indonesian Council of Ulama that is entrusted with issuing fatwa on Islamic financial product and transaction, and posting Sharia Supervisory Board in Islamic bank.

Reward for Working in Government based Institutions

Guess what we have from working (-in my case- placed) in a newly established government-oriented regulatory financial institutions in the frst days?
The answer is reward for being patient.
Our colleagues have noted at least 5 conditions lead to demand us to be patience in our new place.
- Slow connection of internet
- Difficult line up phone connection
- More complicated administrative process
- Timely decision
- No sharia compliance products.

What a dire environment

A dire environment

You might be a dumb person if you dont care your surroundings. But how if the environtment does not do the same thing to you?
I was a care person and always trying to be friendly to others. I do this for two reasons. Firstly because I am not introvert. I am always open to everyone to criticize me if I am wrong and ready to give suggestion whenever asked by others. Secondly because people consider me as a person with a special knowledge. I do not want people become affraid of asking something for their own good.

Now I change my style. I do not talk with people except if they asked me to. I do not call anyone either but if they do it to me.
Strangely  people do not care. I do not why....
May be people think I behave like that because I should be like that due to my rank/position.  If it is so, then this environment is not healthy anymore. On my standard, people should not respect others because either of their rank or position, instead for their ethics and moral behaviour.

One people may notice that. But I already didnt care.
Should I?

Office,
Being unlucky man, praying to his god.

Intermezzo sejarah: Kisah dua siswi SMA di Alliance Francais

Islamabad, tahun 1990.

First day in FSA

I never apply to become an employee in this institution. But "forced" act is already enacted. It outlines that a financial service authority should be in operation started the beginning of 2014 (It is for banking. For other financial services, it has been started since October 2013). And we who work in banking supervision should be placed there to fulfil the superviser gap, as "placement".  It means that after 2 years as, act states, we will be given choices whether back to our first office or stay in FSA.

From BI-ISIF 2013 ....With Something (I hope)

What is so special about international seminar? From the deepest of my heart, my only interest in such seminar is to become speaker and everyone is listening about my presentation. Nothing else. Now, you can imagine how reluctant someone if he is involved in the seminar he is not interested in. Let alone become its committee member.

Whither my life?

Ramadhan comes again. Ahlan Wasahlan wa Marhaban. This year everyone start fasting together, except those who choose to take different day to start. We can only hope that everyone also agree that Idul Fitri falls into the same date, so that no weird thing happens. In one village people choose different day to celebrate, one still fasts and the other prays idul fitri. One says that his friend doing haram thing because he ate in Ramadhan month where everyone are supposed to fast still, while the other accuses back his friend of doing haram thing. It is  because he is fasting in the day in which fasting is considered haram to do.

Is it Worthy?

Recently I was asked to become speaker in an international seminar by my office on special issues that according to many people, it is only me who can handle. So within one week I prepared the paper, do not mention about many obstacles and disturbance during my writing. Let alone the reference that I have never read it.

October reflection

From blog cecep mh

For some people, becoming a teacher is a noble profession. But teaching process itself is not an enjoying work. For that reason, it is very annoying to be an employee teaching peer. Beside it repeates the same thing and not acquiring new knowledge, it become more annoyance if those ones who asked to be taught then become our superviser with a higher rank and order many things related the subject we taught! As if they never learned it over!

Morning Irony

From English CLub Blog

This morning I came to office at 6.00 a.m as usual. But today is special because I want to have a jog around Monas, the national monument. It's been around 6 months I have never run there for exercise. I used to do it in every evening about 3 years ago and it was very nice, before I was stuck into hectic works.
It is very nice to have fresh air in the morning, among the very big open space such as in Monas. The air waves through greenage providing cool ambience for those who walk around. When came to the area which is the center of monument there was already stage for people to assemble. I was told by the officer that there will be a ceremony to commemorate the birth of Indonesian Employee Association (Korpri). (....still exists?)

Tape-Uli (not Tart or Martabak) for My Birthday

It  is a traditional food made of a special rice called "ketan" (Malay "pulut"). To make "tape" people should cook the rice half-baked firstly with water and mix them with certain ingredients. Then the cooked rice should be put for fermentation . (It is the fermentation that generate a little bit alcohol which leads to controversies among the people, as to whether the "tape" is unlawful for being similar to liquor for its alcohol contain.

Walid....are you going again?

I just returned from mosque after completing my Fajr praying when I saw my youngest daughter sitting on the prayer mat. She was still using her mini mukena when I came, a sign that she just completed her Fajar prayer too. She was looking at me curiously as I prepared myself for another trip. "Walid, this is Sunday. Are you going to work too?" she asked. "Well....yes honey" I answer reluctantly. "Then...I have to cycle alone.." she said. Suddenly I felt a disappointment in her voice. I kissed her cheek and said "Next week, Insha Allah we will be cycling again, together with A-a (our call name for my son, her elder brother)....". She replied my kiss with a very big hug and said " Don't forget to buy gifts for me, okay..?" (I smiled, cause her last sentence reminded me of my buddies in office...). A grain of tears dropped from my eyes, unconciously. "Sure my princess, I will..."

Quality Time

Friday night. I just arrived at home when my youngest daughter said to me, "Walid, do you go to work tomorrow?"
I said. "No honey, why?"
"If I you are not busy, I want you to go with me to traditional dance contest " she said.
"She will perform Gelantek dance" said Ummi.

A Short , but Beautiful Moment

It was already evening and I was about to go home after participating in a meeting with our Employees Welfare Foundation at the foundation office. The meeting was very fruitful and conducted in a very friendly manner, although it consists of "demand" from us to insert Islamic scheme for our pension loan, for employees who do not want to take an interest-based loan. Then a lady, standing in the lobby, called me by my name. She wore white-green dress with white veil (kerudung in our language). I was quite surprised, that in this office there is people who knows me, let alone by name! The lady -I remember later on- is an employee in this office, and formerly worked in the same institution with me, in an Islamic bank.

Misperception...the root of all problem

This morning I was called personally by a boss, head of bureau. I never think what will be discussed but I guess it would be a chatting about my recent failure to be poromoted to a senior researcher position in our department. And my guess is damned correct.

He apologized for not choosing me for the position. Nor did he mention about the result of our interview (we were 3 candidates against one position). He just told me that he is preparing a certain team consisting of sharia people, where I and other sharia friends can join, although it is not a binding promise. He ask me not to blame old people in this organization because they had recruited me from and for sharia specialties.
